GIRFT Surgical site infection Audit
OMFS Update May 2017: Maire Morton
11 May 2017
The project is really gaining momentum now. I have now visited 10 units and many more have dates in the diary over the coming weeks. There have been some issues with data and I think coding in some areas of the speciality is a problem. I hope the units visited have found the information helpful so far.
The next project is the GIRFT Surgical Site Infection Audit. By now all trusts will have had an invitation letter sent to the Medical Director together with a briefing pack. The areas to be looked at for OMFS are as below:
Procedures to be included in the audit:
- Head and neck cancer surgery with block dissection of cervical lymph nodes
- Head and neck cancer surgery with excision of organ, excision of lesion of organ or reconstruction of organ
- Head and neck cancer surgery with orthopaedic procedure
- Skin cancer with skin lesion procedure
- Dentoalveolar surgery
The registration time for the audit was very tight and the published dates have passed, however, you can still register by contacting the team
There is a webinar on TUESDAY 16 MAY 2017 at 5.30pm to discuss the aims and methods and to discuss potential queries.
It is hoped that junior doctors will be able to support this audit and the GIRFT team has been in touch with junior doctor groups.
The message is please get every unit to register for this National Audit
