Membership Categories
BAOMS has four categories of membership:
Fellowship is the Association's most senior category of membership, open to consultants and others on the specialist lists for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery who are engaged predominantly in surgical practice within the British Isles. Fellows have voting rights and are entitled to hold office and participate in the executive proceedings of the Association.
The membership category Associate Fellow is for Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists (SAS Grades) in substantive posts. Associate Fellows have voting rights and representation on BAOMS Council.
The membership category of Fellow in Training is for those who are enrolled in SAC approved training programmes in the UK. Fellows in Training have voting rights and are represented on BAOMS Council by the Fellows in Training Representative and his/her Deputy, who are elected by the Fellows in Training.
The membership category of Junior Trainee is for trainees in junior training posts.
The membership category of Member is for all other practitioners with an interest in the specialty. Surgeons and practitioners who are based outside the British Isles are also included within this category.
Those members based in the British Isles who are undertaking their BDS or MBBS as a first or second degree are eligible to apply for Student status.
The Junior Trainees and Members’ Representative is elected by the Junior Trainees and Members and attends the meetings of BAOMS Council.
