International OMFS
Legal Definition of Nations with DOMFS and Maxillofacial Surgery in EU
The full directive, consolidated and updated in April 2019 in English. it is also available in other European Languages.
To save you time we have created an extract with the front page and the relevant parts of Annex V. This includes the footnote (bottom of the last page) regarding DOMFS (Dental, Oro-Maxillo-Facial Surgery – basic medical and dental training) as OMFS is referred to in this directive. Some nations interpret this footnote as preventing studying for the second degree during specialty training, and other read it the other way.
Union of European Medical Specialists
BAOMS is a member of the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS).
Our two representatives are Iain Hutchison and Patrick Magennis.
Meetings take place once per year in March. Although the UK is no longer a member of the European Union, UEMS have agreed that we will remain a member like Switzerland is. The UK’s member organisation is the British Medical Association, so Iain and Patrick are BMA representatives, nominated by BAOMS. They do not have to be BMA members..
UEMS generates documentation for medical specialists including dual degree OMFS (called Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in EU Directives) and medical degree only Maxillofacial Surgery.
