Breaking the silence – sexual misconduct in surgery
12 September 2023 (Last updated: 12 Sep 2023 12:44)
We acknowledge the shocking research published today in the British Journal of Surgery “Sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape by colleagues in the surgical workforce, and how men and women are living different realities: observational study using NHS population derived weights” and the report from the Working party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery titled Breaking the silence: Addressing sexual misconduct in healthcare.
BAOMS are pleased to see the progress already made following the round table meeting with key stakeholders on 2nd May 2023 and fully support the recommendations made in the report.
We are proud that Professor Carrie Newlands and BAOMS President Daljit Kaur Dhariwal are key members of the group who have raised this important topic and are committed to making Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery a safer place for all our colleagues. We commit to delivery of the report’s recommendations.
