Trainees Jim Higginson, Anand Kumar and Cristina Frezzini took on a three-day ironman challenge triathlon and raised over £1,000 for the Norman Rowe International Educational Foundation (NRIEF).
The intrepid trio each completed one of the legs of the challenge on the Welsh mountains and sea. Jim went first and swum 3.8k m in open water, Anand then took up the challenge and cycled 180 km followed by Cristina who ran an extraordinary 42.1km.
“The long weekend course went well, and all three of us made it out alive - just!! We have reached our £1,000 goal, but further donations are welcome,” Jim Higginson says.
NRIEF backs surgeons who provide health care support in regions that have been devastated by disaster or conflict. Recent NRIEF missions, initially led by Shakir Mustafa, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon at the Cwm Taf University Health Board, have supported the restoration and development of the Nepalese health and surgical care system destroyed in the disastrous earthquake of 2015.
