ePoster: Using cannabis oil in palliative care of advanced HNC
22 June 2018
Holistic palliative treatment in advanced head and neck cancer cases is offered to patients, but this often involves surgery, radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy as well as complementary therapies. In a recent case, presented as an ePoster at the BAOMS 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting by Anand Kumar from the Royal Derby Teaching Hospitals Trust, an older patient declined palliative treatment, but chose to use oral cannabis oil. Subsequent examinations revealed that the tumour had shrunk after 90 days of treatment with the oil.
The conclusion of this, and other case reports by oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMFS), highlight that taking therapeutic amounts of THC and CBD cannabis oil over a period of time can inhibit tumour grow. This suggests that cannabis oil can be used in palliative care of head and neck cancer patients.
